Performances

This term pupils at the Belper academies will begin rehearsing for a children’s version of William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.  Children will audition for parts and be invited to play musical instruments as part of the show.  Pupils at the Uttoxeter academy will be rehearsing for an adaptation of ‘The Railway Children’ by E. Nesbit.  Pupils in main prep will take on the different characters and pupils in pre-prep will perform a rendition of ‘From a Railway Carriage’ by Robert Louis Stevenson as part of the final performance.  It is hoped that both these performances will take place outside during the summer term.  Permission slips for the Belper academy are available to download.

Pupils at the Bakewell academy will be staging a special ‘Mother’s Day’ performance at the end of the Spring Term.  The play will involve a dramatisation of ‘The Trouble With Mum’ by Babette Cole and will include devised pieces from the pupils. 

Pupils at the new academy in Blackburn will work towards a performance for parents at the end of the spring term showcasing their talents and new drama skills.  Permission slips for the Blackburn academy are available to download.

Theatre Trip

The ‘Learning Through Drama’ (Derbyshire) spring theatre trip is to see ‘Oliver’ at Belper High School Theatre in Belper.  The show begins at 7.15pm on Monday 12 February 2007 (during half term).  Please drop your child off at the theatre no later than 7pm and collect at approximately 9.30pm.  Permission slips will be handed out at academies and are also available to download.  Please return with £6 if you would like your child to attend.

The ‘Learning Through Drama’ (Lancashire) spring theatre trip is to see ‘Anything Goes’ at Clitheroe Parish Church Theatre in Clitheroe.  The show we will see is the matinee on Saturday 17 February 2007 (during half term).  Permission slips will be handed out at academies and are also available to download.  Please return with £10 if you would like your child to attend.

Polo Shirts

‘Learning Through Drama' maroon polo shirts will be available from early December. If you would like to place an order please complete the slip (downloadable). It is by no means compulsory to purchase a polo shirt. Shirts cost £10 and are available in sizes 7-8, 9-11 & 12-13.

Bespoke Days

‘Learning Through Drama’ will be holding a ‘World War II’ day for pupils at a school in Derbyshire this term.  The focus text will be ‘The Rocking Chair’, a tale of wartime childhood seen through the eyes of a small boy living in the country.  A copy of the script is available to downloadWe are delighted to hold our first workshop as part of an after school club in Derbyshire in February.  We will be looking at the Chinese New Year and working with pupils on their use of eyes, posture, movement and gesture when representing character.  A copy of the activities is available to download.

We have been commissioned by the ‘Lighthouse Training’ company to present a staff-training day to promote a learning culture that is international, technological, scientific and enterprising.  This will take place at a grammar school in Kent.  Finally, we have been invited back to a school near Blackpool to host a second ‘Learning Through Drama’ book week.  We will be using poems by Allan Ahlberg as a stimulus for drama activities with every class in the school from reception to year six.

February Half Term Workshops

Smallwood Manor School in Marchington, Uttoxeter will be hosting a half term drama workshop from Sunday 11 February to Tuesday 13 February 2007. Applications for the workshop are available to download and include a free theatre ticket to see ‘The Two Bum Bun’ in Derby.

INSET Training

P.P.A Cover

‘Learning Through Drama’ has extended its PPA cover provision this term and now offers drama lessons to Foundation, key stage one and two pupils in Derbyshire.  All lessons are carefully planned and fully involve all children in devising and performing a wide variety of drama pieces.
